03. Street toast & Twisted donut-street food(3)

Street Toast
Normally toast is considered as a light home made dish for breakfast and it’s not easy to consider it as a street food.
In Korea, it is one of the famous street food and it is beloved by the people who are too busy to have time for breakfast at home in the morning. We can often see food-trucks where to sell toasts on the street.

It costs only USD 1~3 but it tastes really good. The combination of a few of very simple ingredients makes amazing flavor.
Eventually a big franchise company was launched with various menu.(Brand name : Isaac Toast)

If you see the video below, you would like to have a taste.
However, I’d recommend original street toast on street first.
I have posted the recipe for the original street toast here.

Ggwabaegi[gguabegi– Korean traditional Twisted donuts
We had been eating traditional donuts before having global franchise brand like Dunkin or Krispy Kreme in Korea.
But, Korean traditional donuts are slightly different from western donuts and definitely good.
We can meet old school donuts in traditional markets and Korean franchise brands also sell them. If you have chance to visit Seoul, you can go to Mangwon Market which is closed to Hong-Ik University(young street and shopping district). This market is very famous for traditional donuts. Cheap and good.
There are several types and all taste different

Here I’d introduce you one of them, Ggwabaegi which means twisted.
It is fluffy, chewy and deep & gentle sweet.
In this video, you can see the texture, physical size and an Englishman who says that he eats Ggwabaegi at breakfast, lunch, dinner, all day.
